For yet another season, the Theatrical Plastic Arts Conference organized by the National Dramatic Center and the Artistas Plásticos Escénicos y Audiovisuales de España (AAPEE), in collaboration with the Association of Lighting Authors (AAI). This conference proposes, through lectures and round tables, a reflection on the scenic object: the object as a sign, its resignification in the staging, the object in art and its contribution to contemporary staging in its practical, aesthetic and symbolic function.
The conference will be held from June 22 to 24, 2023.
This VI Conference, dedicated to the Scenic Object, will continue with the aim of creating a space for communication and dialogue between the different professionals of the performing arts and the interested public who want to deepen in a fundamental discipline of staging.
As it appears in Patrice Pavis’ Dictionary of Theater, the “scenic object is a term that in critical writings tends to replace those of props or scenery. The neutrality, even the emptiness of the object explains its success in the description of the contemporary scene that participates in the figurative scenery, modern sculpture and the animated plasticity of the actors”.
Pavis observes how in theatrical theory and criticism the concept of props has been replaced by that of scenic object, in such a way that it allows a broader and more contemporary notion of props to be encompassed.
From the use of the mask, the puppet… to contemporary proposals, where the scenic object is articulated as the central axis, during these days we will see the journey that this discipline has experienced as well as the processes of new creators who use this material as the articular axis of their shows.
During the three days of the conference we will have the opportunity to learn about the aesthetic proposals of Marta Pazos, Gabriela Carrizo or Juan Muñoz, among others. In addition to round tables, a performance by Franklin Dávalos, or the installation Petromasculinidades by Cabo San Roque, which will remain open to the public during the three days of the conference.
