It raises an open and transversal debate that welcomes lighting authors, stage directors and choreographers who have in common the fact that they have thought and worked flamenco as a scenic fact. Therefore, it brings together professionals who strive to redefine and conceptualise flamenco choreography as a global stage product, which brings together the necessary interaction of spatial-temporal, intra- and extra-scenic coordinates.
In this speculation that emanates from practical experience and knowledge, the creative connivance of the choreographer and two of the most relevant professionals in the choreographic creative process is highlighted. In fact, the stage director and the lighting designer intervene in a fundamental way in the organization of the scenic and dramatic movement – dancers, musicians, scenery… – in the space, giving them the characterizing singularity that their idea and structure need.
Paraphrasing Peter Brook, Dancing with the Light claims a choreography that from “formal clarity and emotional truth” claims the essence of dance as an effective, expressive, simple creation, free of affectation. In this sense, we start from the conviction that choreographic art is a crossing and an alloy of perspectives of real or fictitious physical lines, between lights and shadows and expectations that converge or distance themselves between you and me, between reality and appearance within a space designed by the movement, rhythm, energy, look and solemnity of the bodies and voices that are born in the same place and time from where the human essence and its need for expression, communication and transcendence arises.
