Within the framework of the Rivas Cherif Laboratory, the Centro Dramático Nacional in collaboration with AAI and AAPEE, celebrates in September 2015 the second conference dedicated to scenic plastic in our country.
The realization of this event, a continuation of the one held in 2014 entitled The aim of theConference on Scenography and Theatrical Plastic Arts is to continue the process of bringing together and promoting research in the field of stage design, which, coinciding with the International Year of Light, will be held under the motto
The Light on Stage.
A programme of activities is proposed for this year to promote the art of light at all levels, highlighting the artistic and creative values of light, whether as a fact in itself or as an indispensable element in the complex stage process.
Planned Activities:
– Conferences: aimed at professionals.
Lecture 1: Light and art.
Daniel Canogar
My most recent installations have been built with electronic material found in dumpsters, landfills and recycling centers: multi-colored telephone, computer and electrical cables, thousands of melted light bulbs, meters of videotape, old slot machines, celluloid, DVDs, etc. These installations explore the short life of the technologies we discard and their relationship to mortality.
These installations also seek to reanimate the inanimate. Light animations projected on the installations appear to release the energy stored in the electronic material, awakening memories of its past.
Through my work I try to give life to these materials that have died, to show their secrets, to revive the collective memory they contain in order to build a portrait of a society and an era.
Conference 2: Light in big events
(Speaker to be determined)
Lecture 3: Light and video-scene. Dorijan KolundzijaSerbian video scenarist and regular collaborator of Tomaz Pandur
Lecture 4: Light composition for the stage.
Jennifer Tipton, American Lighting Designer, Professor of Lighting Design at Yale University and AAI honorary member
AAI honorary member
– Round Tables: spaces for debate on different aspects of light and design from gender, technological, pedagogical and transversal perspectives.
Table 1: Light and show.
We will discuss how light and lighting design affects the whole show as well as each element that makes up the show. To do this we brought together a director, a set designer, a costume designer, a producer, a theatre critic and a lighting designer.
Moderator: José Luis Romo
Participants: Juan Gómez-Cornejo, Natalia Menéndez, María Luisa Engel, Alfonso Barajas y Nadia Corral
Panel 2: Light in other artistic disciplines The aim of the round table is to discuss the similarities and differences when dealing with light and its design as part of a more complex artistic project. What criteria dominate lighting design for architecture; art installations and exhibitions; concerts and events; and for film and television.
Moderator: María Doménech
Participants: José Luis Raymond, Valentín Álvarez, Ada Bonadei and a music event illuminator to be determined (AAI partner).
Panel 3: Formation, pedagogy of light Lighting has long since taken its place in the world of show business. However, their training is not yet consolidated in Spain. We will analyze the current state of our lighting training and its future; lighting training models in other countries; as well as some relevant topics regarding lighting pedagogy: design training/technical training; integration with sound, video and automation; 3D tools for design and for the show; among others.
Moderator: Tano Astiaso
Participants: Tamzin Townsend, Juan Sebastián Domingo, Miguel Ángel Camacho and Jordi Planas. Special Guest, Jennifer Tipton, Professor of Lighting Design at Yale University (USA)
– Masterclasses: a space for dialogue is created between a design professional who presents his or her work models to students and other professionals.
Masterclass 1: Light and dramaturgy Paco Azorín
Masterclass 2: Photography and scene. The light and the lens or the lens of the light Fernando Marcos
Light, that ethereal essence that shapes our raw material and without which nothing would exist. Our mission, as documentarians of the scene, is to capture it, respect it and make the most of it without additives or manipulations, because, in essence, it has already been transformed into art by its creators.
Masterclass 3: We are light. A reflection on clothing and the illuminated subject: absorption, refraction, projection. Javier Chavarria
Within the implications that clothing has per se, as it is related not only to the body, but also to the role that this body plays, in the field of performing arts these implications create a complex network of references and links. This paper deals with the relationship created between stage costumes and lighting, from the point of view of the expressive and poetic possibilities that this crossover can generate.
– Technical Tables: also designed as spaces for exchange but with a more practical profile, in charge of manufacturers and sponsoring companies.
Table 1: LED, light and colour creation.
LED technology has entered with force in all sectors and spectacular lighting is no exception. Analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of this technology and reflection on how it can change the way of lighting by changing the working method of the designer, especially in terms of color management.
Participants: Felipe Ramos and Alfred Sa
Table 2: Regulations (Construction regulations for scenography, loads and homologations. Occupational hazards).
Participants: Javier Alegría and other speakers to be determined
Table 3: New currents of video-scene. The video-scene is beginning to be an accepted and widely used language in the performing arts. The creation of spaces, lighting and dramaturgy through video gives us possibilities to explore. Three designers, Álvaro Luna, Emilio Valenzuela and Jaime Munárriz will analyse the present and future of the video-scene in the performing arts.
Participants: Álvaro Luna, Emilio Valenzuela and Jaime Munárriz
– Video-book exhibitions.
– Prague Quadrennial Exhibition.
