“LIGHT, DRAMATURGY, IMAGINATION”
In this presentation, Dr. Yaron Abulafia explores the poetic role of lighting in performance as a scenographic and sometimes sculptural element in its own right.
Yaron will talk about visual dramaturgy, where light “acts”, subconsciously stimulating the bodily and emotional experience, and triggers conceptual processes. Using test cases from international productions he has designed, Abulafia discusses how creative teams use light to create sculpted and imaginative spaces, where beyond illuminating objects in a space, light becomes an object for the viewer and a driver of the experience.
Description:
Can we use light and space in such a way that light not only illuminates objects in space, but becomes an object of observation and generator of experience in its own right? How can we create visual dramaturgy in which light acts as a performer, unconsciously stimulates bodily and emotional experience and triggers conceptual processes as we watch a performance?
