From this Association of Lighting Authors (AAI) we want to recognize and pay tribute to the great work and professionalism of the recently deceased Pedro Olivar. Olivar was a true pioneer for live show lighting in Spain. He began his career at the end of the 60’s as a very young electrician in Rafael Cordova’s company, with whom he toured the world with great productions. He was also a fluent illuminator of the disappeared genre of the Magazine in the 70s and 80s. With the companies of Lina Morgan, Lola Flores, André Pajares, Juanito Navarro, etc… At the end of the 70’s his entrepreneurial spirit, his profession and his hobby came together, starting to design and manufacture his own spotlights as well as other lighting elements (boxes, towers, …). It started in a storage room in the centre of Madrid, in C/Tutor, and soon moved to a small workshop in Sicilia street in Vallecas from where it supplied all the incipient lighting companies of the time; Stonex, Kremesa, Kreluz, Satel and so many other rental companies, theatre companies, discotheques. He reformed and designed the lighting equipment of several theatres such as La Latina, Barceló…, he also designed the lighting of the equestrian fair in Jerez, he was part of the renovation of the lighting of the famous nightclub PACHA in Madrid. I work with the rock bands of the 80’s like Obús, Barón Rojo,… Designed and manufactured the first Super towers for Serrat’s tour. At the end of the 1990s he retired, but he did not lose his active and generous spirit. Before and after he continued to help many small businesses. Not in vain, those who knew him best emphasize his generosity in life and work. Thank you, Pedro, for your great human and professional contribution to the world of lighting. Rest in peace.
