The Association of Lighting Authors has named the respected lighting designer María Domènech an honorary member. Maria is a founding partner of AAI and a member since its inception in 1998, serving on the first board of directors as vice president between 1998 and 2012. Graduated in Art History at the University of Barcelona (1979), and in Dramatic Art at the Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático at the Institut del Teatre de Barcelona (1980). She began her professional career, in the field of lighting, at the Teatre Lliure de Barcelona (1984-1992), intervening, as Xavi Clot’s lighting assistant, in more than 50 theatrical productions under the direction of Fabià Puigserver, Lluís Pasqual, Pere Planella and Josep Muntanyès Lighting teacher at the Institut del Teatre de Barcelona (2004/2020) and at the Instituto Europeo de Diseño-IED (2004-2019). He has taught lighting courses at the AECID cultural centers in Buenos Aires, El Salvador, Lima and Cartagena de Indias. As a lighting designer she has diversified her work in different fields. He has designed the lighting for a large number of exhibitions and museums such as the Dalí in Figueres, the Picasso Museum and the CCCB in Barcelona. He has collaborated with various production centers throughout Spain and Europe, with directors such as: Xavier Albertí, Lurdes Barba, Rafel Duran, Cecilia Ligorio, Joan Ollé, Lluis Pascual, Carme Portaceli, Stefano Poda, Magda Puyo, Alex Rigola, Benedetto Sica…; set designers such as: Montse Amenós, Jon Berrondo, Paco Azorín, Bibiana Puigdefabregas, Max Glenzel, Llorens Corbella, Francesc Torres, Alfons Flores…; and choreographers such as Ferrán Carvajal, Sabine Darendorf, Gelabert-Azzopardi, Juan Carlos Lérida, and Angels Margarit among others.
