The A.A.I. together with the Teatro Real organized a unique meeting with one of the pioneer women of the industry.
On July 16, 2013, the A.A.I. (Asociación de autores de iluminación de España, Association of Spanish Lighting Authors) www.adadi.org) with the support of the Teatro Real and the participation of its sponsors and collaborators, held a meeting with the prestigious American lighting designer Jennifer Tipton in the Gayarre Hall of the Teatro Real. This event has been the starting point of a series of activities that AAI wants to carry out periodically.
J.Tipton is one of the most relevant lighting designers in the world. It is one of the pioneers of the industry. Her resume is impressive, she has worked with the most important dance companies in the United States and has a long career lighting dance, theater and opera on the most prestigious stages in the world. Since 1981 she has been an adjunct professor in the design department of the Yale School of Drama, where she continues to teach.
Winner of multiple awards, including the Dorothy and Lillian Gish Prize, two Tony Awards, two Drama Desk Awards, and the Olivier Award.
JT’s intervention was divided into several parts. A first one where he told us about his beginnings in the industry and how he got into it. He then spoke about his point of view and his relationship with dance, theatre and opera, the similarities and differences. Finally, he explained the production he was working on at the Teatro Real at the time, the opera “Il Postino”.
At the end of his presentation, participants had the opportunity to ask questions and make comments.
The result was a very enriching experience that we hope will be continued in the near future.
