The board of directors of the Association of Lighting Authors appoints prominent designers Clifton Taylor and Donald Holder as guest members of the AAI.
Both lighting authors have generously offered their masterclasses for our members; Clifton Taylorrecently presented his book
Color & Light
in Madrid, coinciding with his masterclass to the AAI members that took place in the Gayarre Hall of the Teatro Real on May 28, 2019.
28th May 2019. In August 2019 she won the prestigious ETC Award for Dance, awarded by Knight of Illumination Awards, for her work in Four Quartets at the Barbican Centre in London.
Don Holder, was named a guest partner following a masterclass he gave on
18 July 2019
at the Teatro Coliseum in Madrid, during his visit for the periodic review of his design for the award-winning musical The Lion King.
Taylor and Holder join the 11 partners invited to join the guest members of the Illuminating of the Lighting Authors Association, including Yaron Abulafia, Simon Bennison, Alain Corthout, Rick Fisher, James Ingalls, Tupac Martir, Pascal Mérat, Jeff Ravitz, Felice Ross, Eli Sirlin and Urs Schönebaum.
(1963), is a set and lighting designer for the theatre. For over 29 years, Taylor has created lighting, projection and scenic designs for theatre, dance and opera companies around the world, as well as designing a number of unique concert events. His work has been seen on Broadway, Off-Broadway, as well as at major arts festivals around the world, including the Venice Biennale, Vienna Festival, Jacob’s Pillow, Singapore Asian Arts Festival, Arts Summit (Jakarta), Hong Kong Festival, Hamburg Summer Festival, Lincoln Center Festival, and BAM/Next Wave, among others.
In the world of dance, his designs have been commissioned by major companies around the world, such as the American Ballet Theatre (New York), the San Francisco Ballet and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (New York). In addition, Taylor is a teacher and lecturer in theatrical lighting. He has been a theatrical consultant to venues worldwide and is a sought-after teacher of theatrical lighting, especially in the area of color and light. She held the New York Broadway Lighting Master Class of New York from 1997-2014 and is a member of the dance faculty at the Juilliard School.
Don Holder
Lighting Designer Don Holdernominated 13 times in the Tony Awards, winner of this award on two occasions for his work on The Lion King and South Pacificis a five-time winner of Drama Desk Awards. Holder is a recognized professional responsible for among other designs of Anastasia, Golden boy, Spider-man turn off the dark, The king and I, Tootsieamong others. He has consulted for large-scale theatres in several countries, is a sought-after teacher of theatrical lighting, and is a graduate of the University of Maine and the Yale School of Drama. He has made several Broadway Lighting Masterclasses.
In addition, he is the director of lighting design on the faculty of the California Institute of the Arts (USA), a member of the dance faculty of the
Juilliard School
