The AAI honours the British designer for his long career in the world of lighting. Peter Mumford has designed productions such as Carmen, Peter Grimes, the Metropolitan Opera 125th Anniversary Gala, La Cenerentola (Glyndebourne), Pétrouchka, Carmen (also sets), Cheating, Lying, Stealing (Scottish Ballet), Punch and Judy, Bluebeard’s Castle, Così fan tutte, Die Soldaten, Poppea (English National Opera), Il trovatore (Paris), Prima Donna Prima (Manchester International Festival), Fidelio, Two Widows, Don Giovanni, Der 7nbsp; Ring des Nibelungen (Scottish Opera), Eugene Onegin, Madama Butterfly (Northern Opera), Giulio Cesare (Bordeaux), Eugene Onegin and The Bartered Bride (Royal Opera House). He co-directed and designed the sets and lighting for L’Heure espagnole and L’Enfant et les sortilèges (Opera Zuid). Recent theatre work includes The Misanthrope, Sharpen Your Ears (Comedy Theatre), Bedroom Farce, A View from the Bridge (Duke of York’s), Pictures at an Exhibition (Young Vic), Parlour Song, Hedda Gabler, Cloud Nine (Almeida), All’s Well that Ends Well, The Reporter, The Hothouse, Exiles (Royal National Theatre), Carousel and Fiddler on the Roof (Savoy). In 1995 he won the Olivier Award for Best Lighting in Dance for The Glass Blew In (Siobhan Davies) and Fearful Symmetries (Royal Ballet), and in 2003 the Olivier Award for Lighting for The Bacchae (Royal National Theatre).
Mumford took part in the XXV Encuentro de la Luz and gave a talk on Benjamin Britten’s opera Peter Grimes at the Teatro Real.
