Where would you start to make a Lighting Design?
Do you know what an Illumination Booklet is?
How would you light a dance show, a comedy, a musical or a concert?
Do you know the potential that design tools like AutoCAD or WYSIWYG offer you?
This course gives an answer to all these questions by providing the basics of Stage Lighting Design.
It is organized in a first part that develops the theoretical principles and stages in the process of creating a Lighting Design, and the guidelines to follow in the realization of the Lighting Booklet. We will see examples of different stage genres such as theatre, dance, musicals, concerts, and the use of light in each of them. To conclude the first part with an introduction to the use of design tools, such as Autocad and WYSISYG.
The second part of the course will consist in the development of a practical exercise on a scenic piece, analyzing its text or dramaturgy, its music, the composition of the scenography and costumes, etc. Based on the analysis, a lighting design sketch will be made, which can be visualized through the use of lighting simulators. In this way we will conclude all the phases of the development of a Lighting Design Project.
This course is aimed at theatre technicians, students, directors, producers and creative people in the performing arts and anyone interested in the world of stage lighting design.
