On Tuesday, November 10, 2013, Juanjo Beloqui, member of the AAI, was kind enough to invite us to visit the staging of the MAIN 40 show that would take place two days later at the Palacio de Deportes de la CAM.
At 11.00 in the morning, a dozen lucky guests had the opportunity to talk “in situ” with one of the lighting designers of reference for this type of events in our country.
It was more of an overview of the necessary technical and equipment features than anything else.
There it was explained to us, in attention to the design constraints regarding the needs of the cameras, which was the choice of lighting, filtering, color temperature, etc., in short, all those variants that must be taken into account when working on a show with thousands of people in public and broadcast live to a large television audience with a large deployment of media.
Reference was also made to the limitations of the space itself, such as, for example, the impossibility of illuminating the rear stand from the front without dazzling the occupants, the location of the spotlights for the audience shots, etc.
Of special interest were Juanjo’s comments about the control tables for these events and his personal preference for the GRAND MA 2.
The exchange of opinions among the designers present was fluid and enriching.
In short, it was an hour and a half of highly specialized technical information in a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere that would have lasted much longer, if a colleague had not revealed to us that Juanjo had spent the night before at the Palacio de los Deportes and still (it was 12.30 in the morning) had not gone to bed.
In the end, we left there very grateful to Beloqui for his effort and generosity and with the feeling that we have to promote more this kind of experiences for all that it has to broaden knowledge and meeting between professionals.
